St.Clare Oral HSS For the Deaf (SCO HSS),Manickamangalam, Kalady, owned and Managed by the Sacred Heart Province of the Franciscan Clarist Congregation (F.C.C) was established on 14 July 1993 for the Hearing Impaired. We aim at bringing the hearing impaired to the mainstream of the society.
This School is situated at Manickamangalam in the close proximity of the prominent SreeSankara College and the Sanskrit University,Kalady. SCO HSSis the only school for the Deaf inAlwayeEducational District.
There are two hundred and forty-five students on roll now in this school. This credits this school the title of the largest school for the deaf in the state of Kerala. We have students from across the country. Our students hear, though they are deaf. They speak though they are dumb. Students are admitted to LKG - Degree Courses. There are day-scholars as well as hostellers. We are equipped with student friendly class rooms, sophisticated and advanced Labs, Library, facilities of spacious accommodation, large play grounds, indoor and out-door games, exposures to general realms of human discourses and dialogues. Vehicles are made available for conveyance of day scholars.Students are provided with hostel facilities free of cost as this is an aided school under the auspices of Franciscan Clarist Congregation. The students here study all subjects of general schools.

The epoch making decision to open Higher Secondary School opened up immense possibilities for the students of SCOHSS. This section too was raised to the aided category in the year 2012.
This school is equipped with 30 highly motivated and trained teachers, including 11 Religious Sisters belonging to the FCC congregation. There are six non-teaching staff and sis speech therapists offering their sophisticated services at this institution.
This institution has promoted 18 batches of SSLC Students and 11 Higher Secondary batches. Many of our former students are working, today in the Govt. and non-Government firms. MrJijo Thomas stands out among them as he has cleared PSC and been selected to the office of the Asst. at the Kerala State Electricity Board. It’s for the first time in the history of Kerala that a deaf candidate was selected for this job. Kudos to JijoThomas! We are proud of you!

Our students participate successfully and compete enthusiastically at the tournaments and competitions organized at the District, State and International levels. Master Krishnan UnniShivan of Std 7 of SCO HSS surprised the world by entering the Guinness Book of world Records by driving all vehicles.
