Unsere Helfer – With a little help from our friends

Im Jahre 2014 gründete Jürgen Christ aus Lippstadt/ Deutschland den Verein Helfer mit Herz. Hauptziel des Vereins war und ist die Unterstützung hörbehinderter oder gehörloser Menschen, vor allem in Indien und anfangs auch in Sri Lanka. Dazu gehörte zunächst die Durchführung von Hörtests und die Ausgabe von Hörgeräten, dann aber zunehmend die Förderung von Gehörlosenschulen.
Nach dem plötzlichen Tod von Jürgen Christ im Jahre 2017 übernahm Rudolf Haselhorst das Amt des 1. Vorsitzenden. Zusammen mit seiner Frau besuchte er 2018 und 2019 die St.Clare Oral Higher Secondary School for the Deaf in Manickamangalam im südindischen Bundesstaat Kerala. Finanziert von den Helfern mit Herz erhielt die Schule einen Notstromgenerator, eine teilweise Überdachung des Pausenhofs und eine neue Küche.
Als Rudolf Haselhorst 2020 verstarb, übernahm seine Frau Gerda Haselhorst den Vereinsvorsitz bis im Juni 2021 Gottfried Tepper zum neuen Vorsitzenden gewählt wurde. Zusammen mit Ulrich Wilke als zweitem Vorsitzenden und Gerda Haselhorst als Kassiererin bilden diese drei den aktuellen Vereinsvorstand.
In den letzten zwei Jahren wurden seitens des Vereins umfangreiche Investitionen in die Ausstattung der Schule getätigt, z.B. die Anschaffung eines Schulbusses, Ausbau und Ausrüstung eines Computerraums, Bau von Umkleidekabinen und Sanitäranlagen am Sportplatz, Bau eines Sprachtherapieraums, Ausbau/Renovierung/Reparatur von Schlafräumen.
Darüber hinaus wurden Mittel für Cochlea Implantate, Hörgeräte und Batterien zur Verfügung gestellt. Allein 2022 erhielt die Schule ca. 11000€ für die Beschaffung neuer Hörgeräte und Batterien.
Wichtige Unterstützer des Vereins vor Ort sind Pater Justin Palimattom (CST-Gemeinde) und der Hörgeräteakustiker Richard Ivan aus Bangalore, der die Anpassung und Einstellung der Hörgeräte kostenlos durchführt.
Der Verein finanziert seine Arbeit ausschließlich über Spenden. Besonders hervorzuheben ist die großzügige Unterstützung durch die KIND Hörstiftung.
Die Helfer mit Herz haben mit ihrer umfangreichen Hilfe erheblich zu der außergewöhnlich erfolgreichen Arbeit der St. Clare School beigetragen.

In 2014 Jürgen Christ from Lippstadt / Germany founded the group Helfer mit Herz /Helpers with a Heart. The main objective of the group was the support of hearing impaired or deaf people, in particular in India and initially also in Sri Lanka. At first this meant, for instance, audiometrical tests and the provision of hearing aids. Later on the helpers focused on supporting schools for the deaf.
After the sudden death of Jürgen Christ in 2017 Rudolf Haselhorst took over as chairman of the group. Together with his wife he visited the St.Clare Oral Higher Secondary School for the Deaf in Manickamangalam in the state of Kerala in southern India. Financed by the Helpers the school could be equipped with an emergency generator, a roof covering part of the schoolyard and a new kitchen.
When Rudolf Haselhorst died in 2020 his wife Gerda Haselhorst took over as chairwoman until in June 2021 Gottfried Tepper was elected new chairman. Together with Ulrich Wilke as deputy chairman and Gerda Haselhorst as treasurer this is the current board.
In the past two years the group made considerable investments in the school’s facilities, such as the purchase of a new school bus, the building and equipment of an IT lab, the building of locker rooms and toilets near the sportsground, the building of a speech therapy room, and the refurbishment of dormitories.
In addition to that, Helfer mit Herz supported and enabled the purchase of cochlea implants, of hearing aids and batteries. In 2022 alone, the school received about 11,000 € for new hearing aids and batteries.
Important local support has been provided by Father Justin Palimattom (CST-Congregation) and hearing aid acoustician Richard Ivan from Bangalore, who regularly fits and adjusts the students’ hearing aids for free.
Helfer mit Herz is completely financed by donations. The generous support of the German KIND Stiftung (foundation) is particularly worth being mentioned.
The extensive aid by the group has certainly contributed considerably to the outstandingly successful work of St. Clare School.
